Introduction: What Drives
Testosterone Levels
Testosterone
is the hormone that drives a man's sex drive. As men age, the amount of
testosterone in their bodies gradually falls. When a man has testosterone
deficiency or low T, in the ovaries or testes, then this is called “primary
hypogonadism. When the problem is related to the pituitary then it is called
“secondary hypogonadism,” and if low T is a result of hypothalamus problems,
then it is called “tertiary hypogonadism.” If a man has testosterone deficiency
or low T, he needs to see a physician because many symptoms that are associated
with low testosterone deficiency, are also associated with other medical conditions.
Symptoms of Testosterone Deficiency
1. Erectile Dysfunction
Erections
occur by several different chemical and nerve actions, including the release of
nitric oxide which are miniscule molecules, but it takes testosterone to
release them. When men can't get an erection or if erections are not firm
enough to complete intercourse, it is a possible sign of testosterone
deficiency.
2. Low Semen Levels
Seminal
vesicles, the prostate, and the testicles all require a healthy supply of
testosterone cells to produce a normal ejaculation. If a man experiences
reduced or weakened ejaculation, then he may experience a symptom of erectile
dysfunction.
3. Genital Numbness
Men who are
experiencing low testosterone will complain of feeling numb down in his lower
extremities. When a man says he feels numb, he means that when a touch to the
penis or scrotum reveals no arousal or sexual sensation, then he feels numb.
Also, genital numbness does not feel good to the touch or it makes men feel
insecure.
4. Fatigue and Decreased Energy
Everyone
feels tired after working or other forms of mental or physical exertions. But
men with low T feel as though they don't want to be aroused or even being
bothered to think about sex. Middle aged men often state that they feel like
their “tank is empty.” In other words, men who begin feeling fatigued and who
may have testosterone deficiency just simply lose their sexual drive and
ambition.
5. Mood and Irritability Problems
Testosterone
deficiency due to low testosterone cells, especially if he is aged 50 and older
and is experiencing andropause, some of his symptoms will be irritability,
depression, and other less than optimistic mood swings. If these conditions
continue on a daily basis, a man should see his doctor to find out if he has
low T.
6. Reduced Muscle Mass and Body Fat
Reduced
muscle mass doesn't mean that men become whimps, but men with low testosterone
do not feel like they once did, filled with robust. Many men begin to see a
shrinkage of muscle mass in their legs, arms, and chest. They start to lift
weights or take muscle mass herbal products. Testosterone therapy treatments
helps men to fill out again and to gain muscle mass. Not only is there a
decrease in normal muscle mass, but there is an increase in body fat,
especially around the mid section. Other man can also develop “gynecomastic”
which means larger breast tissues or man boobs.
7. Shrinkage
Low
testosterone causing testosterone deficiency can cause male testes and penis to
shrink and to feel softer than what is normal. Testicular atrophy can be caused
by many things, especially age. Shrinkage is a normal part of aging because as
men age blood doesn't circulate as well as it use to. Also, living a sedentary
lifestyle can also cause shrinkage problems, as well as excessive smoking and
drinking, including stress. There are certain medical conditions that also
attribute to shrinking penis and testes.
Additional
symptoms that can happen due to testosterone deficiency are erectile
dysfunction; infertility; decreased sex drive; public and facial hair loss, and
osteoporosis. Low testosterone levels are the primary cause of testosterone
deficiency, with the key factors affecting the pituitary gland and the
hypothalamus of the brain.
Conclusion
There is
good news for men who are experiencing testosterone deficiency, it is easy to
treat. There are known testosterone skin gels or pellets that are applied under
the skin. Sexual testosterone therapy can help protect men against certain
medical problems, like heart disease, osteoporosis, and diabetes. These treatments
can also improve mood changes, sexual desires, and physical characteristics.
Low T is also known as hypogonadism. Only your doctor can tell if you have
testosterone deficiency due to low testosterone levels and only your doctor can
decide what treatment is right for you, to help bring back normal testosterone
levels.
